“From Stressed to Blessed: Finding Your Path to Inner Strength & Self-care!”
Some of the biggest contributors to burnout at one’s workplace is due to stress: unbridled overworking, demanding schedules, and/or difficult relationships.
I’ve experienced both burnout and chronic pain due to stressful experiences at my workplace. For me, stress manifested in my body as chronic neck pain (for several years) and nightly nightmares. For some people, uncontrolled stress causes overeating, drug use, or alcoholism. It doesn’t have to be that way. Identifying and standing up to the triggers of stress can be challenging but not impossible. It means developing the awareness of the triggers and being courageous enough to support and protect your own mental health and well-being.
This empowering article attempts to provide practical solutions to conquer work-related stress and regain harmony in your life. I'll offer practical tips, insightful strategies, and transformative exercises to help you thrive on your professional journey while maintaining your mental and physical well-being.
Five Insightful Strategies for Successfully Handling Workplace Stress:
1.Reframe Perspectives: Challenge negative thoughts and reframe them into more positive and empowering perspectives. I like the affirmation, “I am peaceful, healthy, strong, and wealthy!” Shift your focus from problems to solutions, and cultivate an attitude of gratitude and resilience.
2.Build Resilience: Develop resilience by embracing setbacks as learning opportunities. Cultivate a growth mindset, practice self-compassion, and celebrate small victories along the way.
3.Effective Communication: This is super important! Enhance your communication skills to express your needs, set boundaries, and assertively address stressful situations. Learn active listening techniques and practice effective conflict resolution strategies.
If you’re holding back on something important that needs to be said, practice it first to yourself until you’re comfortable with your dialogue. Once you've spoken the words that comes from your heart out loud and you're satisfied that your words are true, thoughtful, and positive, you're ready to shine! You’ll be more confident when the situation arrives and you can speak with whatever emotion is called for: authority, compassion, strength etc.
4.Cognitive Restructuring: Identify and challenge negative thought patterns that contribute to stress. Replace self-limiting beliefs with more realistic and empowering thoughts to reduce anxiety and improve overall well-being. Again, mental rehearsal is empowering.
5.Time for Reflection: Set aside regular time for self-reflection and introspection. Assess your priorities, values, and goals, and make adjustments as needed to align your actions with what truly matters to you.
Three Transformational Exercises to Begin to Change Your Mindset from Stressed to Blessed:
At the beginning of this article I shared the story of my own journey with stress and it’s results in my life: years of chronic pain and horrible bloody nightmares. Sometimes the best solutions to stress can be extreme when the practical ones don’t solve the problem. I fired a troublesome employee and from that moment on the nightmares stopped. The very next day after I sold my 14 year old business, I felt the neck pain drift out of my neck, never to return. I believe the body is a communication device for the mind and soul. The message for me was that it was time to move on to another line of work. The career I held since high school had served its purpose and it was time to take on another purpose. You’ll need to search your own soul for the meaning of conflict, stress, and/or chronic pain in your life. It always calls for some kind of change and only you can determine what that is or when it's time to move on. Trust yourself and trust your heart to go from Stressed to Blessed!
